Londontur 2010, dag 3, mandag 25. oktober

Denne dagen gikk turen til the Royal Observatory, Greenwich sammen med en kollega og hans samboer. Turen til observatoriet gikk med Undergrunnen og DLR (Dockland Light Railway), forbi høyhusene på Canary Warf. Siden et astronomisk observatorium trenger godt utsyn til stjernene, ligger det oppe på en høyde. Et ypperlig sted hvis man vil ha litt utsikt over London.

On this day the trip went to the Royal Observatory at Greenwich together with a colleague and his girlfriend. We got there by using the Underground and DLR (Dockland Light Railway) by the sky scrapers at Canary Warf. As an astronomical observatory needs a good view to the stars, the observatory lies on a hill top. A nice place to be if you want a over view of London.

Greenwich observatoriet har mange interessante gamle astronomiske instrumenter som teleskoper, meridiansirkler, solur og andre ur. Ett av solurene er to delfiner som viser tiden og av bildene ses det at vi var der en god stund.

The Greenwich obsesrvatory has a lot of interesting old astronomical instruments as telescopes, sundials and clocks. One of the sundials have to dolphins showing the time, and as the photos show, we spent quite a while at the observatory.

Ved observatoriet finner man også Londons eneste planetarium, og siden vi kommer fra et vitensenter med planetarium måtte vi ta en titt, selv om den eneste forestillingen med ledig tid var en av de samme filmene som vi viser i Tromsø. Men, We are Astronomers er verdt å se mange ganger.

At the observatory you also find the only planetarium in London. As we work at a science centre with a planetarium, we needed to visit it even though the only available show was a show we run in Tromsø as well. Bu then, We are Astronomers is worth seeing several times.

Returen gikk med båt på Themsen, under utallige bruer fra Greenwich til Westminster og Big Ben. Vi så det store pariserhjulet London Eye fra flere steder på turen. http://www.londoneye.com/

The trip back went by boat at the Thames from Greenwich to Westminster and the Big Ben, under lots of bridges. We could see the big wheel London Eye from several places on the river.
