TattingChic showed us earlier a new way of climbing out of a row through a single colour ring even though you use two colours. This gave me an idea on a colour combination for my Minor Norwegian Dragons. This black and red was the second go (the first was a blue dragon I made a while ago).

Originally the pattern of the dragon calls for single shuttle splitrings (SSSR) but someone (don't remember who, sorry!) made the dragon using ordinary splitrings and two colours on the rings of the tail, back and neck. I stated this pink and green dragon on the flight to China and finished tatting it on the Great Wall of China. Here I used one colour on the rings of the wings in addition to two colours on the rings of the tail, back and neck.

Then, how do you climb out of a two colour row with only one colour showing on the ring? You use SSSR and carry both threads as the core thread for the first part of the ring (see this post by TattingChic for details). Now; why not use this for the SSSR of the tail, head and neck? I just had to try and this is the result in grey and pink. I considered adjusting the number of rings to get the same colour on the tip of the tail and the head. Another possibility is to use two colours on the tip of the tail and the head.

Thank you TattingChic and Martha for presenting this technique!

I have you dragon pattern on my list of "to do"s and this has moved it up the list. I have got to get some of these made.

I like your mini dragon, I have made of pair for earings, but need to make them again and use wire to stiffen, as they tend to droop over time.

Thanks for these patterns, love them.
