Jeg har meldt meg på et nuperellekurs på internett som holdes av Gerogia Seitz. Undervisninga foregår via chatting, noe jeg gjorde for første gang i mitt liv sist mandag. Første gang jeg var med, var temaet klassiske hjul av ringer. Hjemmeleksen var å lage et kvadrat etter å ha sett på hvordan en trekant var konstruert. Jeg måtte prøve meg på en femkant også. Hadde tenkt å lage en sekskant, men en venninne spurte om det ikke var mulig å lage hjerter på samme måten, så jeg prøvde det i stedet. I have just joined the online tatting class run by Georgia Seitz. The theme for the first class I was attending was the classic tatted wheel. After having studied a triangle based on the tatted wheel the homework was making a similar square.

For me the first step was to reproduce the triangle. The triangle we had a look at in class, had two rings between the clovers that make the corners of the triangle. Centre ring: 2 dst 9 times. Small rings: 6+6, join to the centre ring. Side rings: 6+3-2-2-3-6 (two between each clover). Clovers: R: 6+3-2-2-3-6, R: 6+3-2-2-2-2-3-6, R: 6+3-2-2-3-6, leave some thread between the rings in the clover.

Then the square. Four corners calls for four clovers. As there are more rings to go around, I made them slightly smaller. Still using two rings between each clover, I needed 2 dst 12 times in the centre ring. Small rings 6+6, join to the centre ring. Side rings 6+2-1-1-2-6. Clovers: R: 6+2-1-1-2-6, R: 6+2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-6, R: 6+2-1-1-2-6, leave some thread between the rings.

The natural next step would be a pentagon. As I did not want the size to be too large, I reduced the number of rings between the clovers to one. As the number of rings decreased I increased the size to the same as for the triangle. I should not have done so. It needed some persuading to be flat.


I was aiming for a hexagon, but before I got that far, a friend of mine asked if it was possible to make a heart as she found the triangle to be of a "heart-ish" shape. I had to try to make one. The first attempt my friend got the same evening, no photo. The second attempt was less like a hart, the third not much better. The fourth is more like the first attempt, only larger rings at the curves. The fifth (grey) is more like a heart. If I make it again, I'll make the ring at the point a bit larger.

This is how you make the grey heart:

All 6+6 rings are joined to the centre ring
All outer rings are joined to the previous outer ring. The last is also joined to the first outer ring.
